New Children’s Hospital
The 257,000 square foot Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital is a Level One Trauma Center offering advanced emergency and intensive care healthcare services in a uniquely designed environment. Planned with concepts of Planetree “Person-Centered Care”, the intent was to create a homelike healthcare facility. To accomplish this, the design featured color schemes, interactive areas, themed areas and a pod layout with small grouping single-occupancy patient rooms which allowed parents to remain beside with their child. The heart of each pod features a gathering area with a lounge, play space with a nutrition center for food and drinks. In addition, realizing the effectiveness of positive distractions to improve the spirit of patients of all ages, patients and visitors can explore a walk-through aquarium, train locomotive, helicopter, fire truck, and museum exhibits of a doll collection and New York baseball history.
