Renovation and Interior Design for the SUNY College of Optometry

Lothrop Associates worked with the Library Director and Library Staff on a complete redesign of the 11,000 square foot Harold Kohn Vision Science Library. The new design focused on creating more efficient use of the space and a collaborative environment for students. This was achieved with a new, centrally-located circulation desk and the reconfiguration and removal of existing book stacks. As a part of our interior design services, we also provided furniture and finish selections, including new carpet, paint and lighting.

A custom designed Circulation Desk is the focal point upon entry to the Harold Kohn Vision Science Library at the SUNY College of Optometry. It accomplishes Universal Design by incorporating transaction surfaces at varying heights. The use of quartz and high-pressure laminate creates a high-end look while offering durability for the high traffic space.
