Cropsey Barn Restoration Awarded by AIA

Lothrop Associates received the 2019 AIA award for the Cropsey Barn restoration. We restored the 1796 heavy timber frame barn and bunkhouse. The building was lifted for a new foundation and drainage with roof ridges reset and restored to be structurally sound. Now the barn can be preserved for the next 100 years. The barn complex is situated on a 24 acre parcel with the 1796 Dutch Colonial farmhouse which is still occupied by Jim Cropsey, heir to the original owner. The property and farmlands are an active farm operated by the Rockland Farm Alliance under ownership of Rockland County. The barn and property enable them to process, store and distribute crop shares for 280 shareholders.
