Staff Spotlight: Up Close + Personal with Martin Groomes

Our team is growing and full of team members with different experience, backgrounds, and interests. Check out our latest staff spotlight with Martin Groomes, Technical Designer.

What made you get interested in architecture and design?
Growing up, I always had an interest in taking things apart to figure out how they work and putting them back together. I was interested in designing planes as well. I built different kinds of paper planes to achieve the longest flight possible.  Deconstruction, design, and construction pointed me toward architecture.

What is your favorite project?
I don’t believe I have a favorite project.  All the projects I have worked on have had something that was special or memorable during design or construction.

Through the years, I have worked on a wide spectrum of projects and that is what keeps me passionate about what I do. Projects include Hudson Valley Regional Airport, Ford Leonard Tower Façade Restoration, Elm City Scattered Homes – Interior and Exterior Restorations, Elm City Communities – Exterior Envelope and Dwelling Unit Improvements, SUNY Purchase – Music and Museum, to name a few.

What is something fun that we might not know about you?
I enjoy the outdoors. Whether it is tending to my garden, playing golf, or cutting my lawn, being outside brings me happiness.

If you could visit any place in the world, where would it be?
I would love to visit the Swiss Alps. I prefer large open areas with mountainous views.
